Causes of Sore Throat

There are many causes of sore throats, here's a list of the most common causes

  • Bacteria and viruses infection
  • Tonsillitis - inflammation of the tonsils.
  • Sinus drainage
  • Dry indoor air, especially in air-conditioner environment, particularly in the morning when you first wake up.
  • Pollution from outdoor air and indoor pollution - tobacco smoke or chemicals
  • Too much alcohol intake and spicy foods also can irritate your throat.
  • Allergies due to pet dander, molds, dust and pollen

Treating Sore Throat

  • Take lozenges to provide relief
  • Use humidifier to relief symptoms, especially in sore throats caused by mouth breathing and dry air.
  • Gargling with salt water will reduce swelling in the throat. The excess salt in the gargle helps to draw less saturated fluids out, reducing inflammation
